Employer Helps Nab Charity Box Theft Suspect

NEWARK – A man caught on video stealing a cancer charity box was captured Saturday after his boss and co-workers recognized him from pictures published in newspapers, The Associated Press reported. Daniel Santos, 23, stole the box from a bakery on June 8.

Building Fire Injures 2 Firefighters, Displaces 45

BAYONNE, N.J. – A fast-moving fire that severely damaged a Bayonne building early Saturday left two firefighters injured and 45 residents displaced, The Associated Press reported. The blaze began in a trash area in the back of the building on Avenue C, then spread up the walls onto the top floor.

Couple Faces 100s of Charges Over 276 Dogs in Home

HOWELL, N.J. – A couple found with 276 dogs face 552 counts of animal cruelty — one charge per dog for animal cruelty and another for failing to get veterinary care, The Associated Press reported. The canines were found on June 3 in the home of Charlene and Joseph Handrik in deplorable conditions but in good health.

‘Countdown Bandit’ Arrested For 10 NJ Bank Robberies

HACKENSACK, N.J. – A man suspected of being the “Countdown Bandit” was arrested and charged Thursday for 10 bank robberies in Bergen and Passaic counties since February 2015, The Associated Press reported. Marcelino Garcia was infamous for counting down until tellers gave him money.

NY Puts Out Resource Guide For First-Time Fathers

ALBANY – New York is distributing in all hospitals in the state a resource guide for new fathers, The Associated Press reported. The “Driver’s Manual for New Dads” ranges from changing diapers to the importance of being involved in their children’s lives.

Rescued Harnessed Arctic Fox at Home in Buffalo Zoo

BUFFALO – A young Arctic fox found running loose in Michigan wearing a harness is now at home at the Buffalo Zoo, The Associated Press reported. The male fox named Ash is about 2 years old and is believed to have been someone’s pet.
