New Jersey Considers Smoking Ban at Public Parks
New Jersey residents would be barred from smoking in public parks under legislation scheduled to get a vote in both houses of the Legislature.
The Democrat-led Assembly and Senate are set to vote Thursday on the bill.
Republican Gov. Chris Christie spoke about the measure Wednesday on his regular call-in show. He did not say whether he would sign or veto the bill, but said he doesn’t see why the decision to ban smoking shouldn’t be left to towns across the state.
The legislation would amend a 2005 law that banned smoking at indoor public places and workplaces to include state, county and town parks.
The ban would not apply to parking lots adjacent to public parks.
