The Boro Park community is deeply pained by the petirah of Mrs. Chava Kasten, a”h, 45, who passed away suddenly Monday afternoon, leaving behind a shocked and grieving family.

“There are no words for it. It’s an unbelievable shock and tzaar. We are all beside ourselves,” a family member told Hamodia. “She was a role model to us. She was always happy and calm; we all looked up to her.”

Mrs. Kasten was born in 1971 in Boro Park to, lbcl”c, Reb Tzvi Dov and Mrs. Malka Itzkowitz. She attended Tomer Devorah High School and in 1991 married, lbcl”c, Reb Avrohom Moshe Kasten. The couple settled in Boro Park where they raised their family and became pillars of the Slonimer kehillah.

“Their mishpachah is one in the world. The chinuch that she put into them was really something special. It’s an amazing home,” said the family member.

For over 10 years, the Kasten home hosted the Slonimer Rebbe of Bnei Brak on his visits to the United States. Reb Avrohom Moshe, a particularly close talmid of the Rebbe, operates the popular children’s clothing store All in One.

On Monday afternoon, Mrs. Kasten was niftar suddenly.  She leaves behind a family of eight children, the youngest of whom is eight years old.

The levayah was held early Tuesday afternoon at the Slonimer beis medrash in Boro Park, and then the Vizhnitzer beis medrash in Monsey. Kevurah was in the Vizhnitzer beis hachaim in Monsey.

Mrs. Kasten is survived by her husband, Reb Avrohom Moshe; parents, Reb Tzvi Dov and Mrs. Malka Itzkowitz; sons, Yaakov Naftoli, Yitzchok Aryeh, and Shmuel Dovid; daughters, Chaya Pessah, Rovi, Leah, Chana and Gitty; and siblings.

The family will be sitting shiva at their home in Boro Park, at 1138 49th street.

Yehi zichrah baruch.
