Hamas Wary, But Still Digging
Although Hamas officials are wary of ongoing Israeli efforts to detect and destroy their tunnels, they continue digging, according to a Hamas operative interrogated by the Shin Bet.
The suspect, a teen, gave information on the location of tunnels in Gaza.
The suspect comes from the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, and was arrested last month while attempting to cross the border fence into Israel. He belonged to the northern division of the Kassam Brigades, Hamas’s military wing, where he said he was trained to infiltrate and plant explosive devices in Israeli targets.
He was enlisted in Hamas prior to Operation Protective Edge in 2014 and was employed in the excavation of tunnels that would infiltrate into Israeli territory, as well as placing explosive devices in tunnels to prevent IDF soldiers from entering them, the Shin Bet said.
The Israeli security agency said that the suspect is one of many currently under questioning who are providing intelligence on Hamas’s underground infrastructure.
