U.S.: N. Korea Shows No Interest in Diplomacy

BEIJING (Reuters) -

The United States remains open to credible and meaningful diplomacy with North Korea but the country has shown no interest, Sung Kim, the U.S. special envoy for North Korea, said on Thursday.

North Korea should refrain from provocative behavior, Kim told reporters in Beijing.

North Korea conducted its fourth nuclear test on Jan. 6 and has vowed to conduct more, despite the stepped-up international sanctions. Kim said deploying the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) defense system in South Korea would be an appropriate measure.
