N.J. State Police Troopers Collide During Pursuit in Paterson
State police say cruisers driven by two troopers collided during a pursuit, leaving one trooper with minor injuries.
The pursuit had started Saturday night after one of the troopers stopped a vehicle on I-80 westbound in Elmwood Park.
The vehicle’s driver sped away as the trooper got out of the cruiser. But a second trooper soon spotted the vehicle about a mile west and took up the chase.
The vehicle eventually exited the highway in Paterson and then ran several stop signs while driving on city streets. The second trooper ended the chase for safety reasons, but that trooper’s cruiser was soon rear-ended by the first trooper who was coming to assist in the chase.
One trooper was treated for a minor back injury. The other wasn’t hurt.
