Deadline Coming To Claim Tax Refunds for 2012

ALBANY (AP) —

Many New Yorkers have not yet filed to get their 2012 federal tax refunds, totaling more than $56 million, and the deadline to file is Monday.

IRS data show 57,600 New Yorkers haven’t filed 2012 returns. The Hudson Valley has the highest number, with 6,777 still able to file for $6.5 million. The average refund is $796.

Taxpayers have up to three years to claim a refund, making April 18 the last day to claim for 2012. If not, the money goes to the U.S. Treasury.
