Amazon Expands Dash Button Lineup

(Chicago Tribune/TNS) —

Amazon Prime customers can now buy from more than 100 brands at the push of a button. Amazon announced it has 78 new Amazon Dash Buttons, which let customers restock products from laundry detergent to Doritos.

The new instant-order buttons, added a year after Amazon introduced the concept, more than triple the number of brands in the program, Amazon said.

Amazon Dash orders have grown 75 percent in the last three months, and customers overall are pushing the buttons more than once a minute, Amazon Dash director Daniel Rausch said in a statement on Thursday.

New brands added to the lineup include Charmin, Lysol, Illy Coffee, Red Bull, Starbucks Doubleshot Coffee and two different kinds of coconut water.

Brands including Bounty, Gillette and Tide have been part of the Dash program since last year.

Customers must be Amazon Prime members to use the service. The buttons — oval-shaped, with the brand’s logo next to the button — are meant to be used with products customers buy regularly and mean shoppers automatically buy the same product from the same brand through Amazon, using their default payment, address and shipping speed preferences.

“PepsiCo is always looking for new and innovative ways for shoppers to engage with our brands … the Dash Button was one of those unique opportunities,” said David Orr, a PepsiCo spokesman, in a news release. “We have been very pleased with shopper feedback and engagement since the launch and look forward to expanded learnings moving forward.”

The buttons cost $4.99 each, but customers get a $4.99 credit the first time they use the button to buy, making them effectively free, Amazon said.
