Suozzi Declares He’s Running For Congress

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (AP) —

Former Nassau Executive Thomas Suozzi on Sunday officially declared he’s running for the congressional seat being vacated by retiring Rep. Steve Israel.

The 53-year-old Democrat says he’ll continue Israel’s work on behalf of middle-class families, veterans and seniors. He has served eight years as county executive and eight years as Glen Cove mayor.

Suozzi spent Sunday crisscrossing the district, which runs from eastern Queens to western Suffolk County. Queens Borough President Melinda Katz endorsed Suozzi, saying he possessed the experience to bring federal dollars back to the district.

Other candidates include Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern.
