NYS Comptroller Finds 18 Villages With Fiscal Stress

ALBANY (AP) -

New York’s comptroller found 18 villages statewide with some level of fiscal stress, which is slightly better than last year, when his office listed 22 villages with fiscal stress.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s office evaluated 538 villages based on year-end fund balances, short-term borrowing, operating deficits and other factors.

Three villages were found to have significant fiscal stress in 2015: Potsdam in St. Lawrence County, Pomona in Rockland County and Tannersville in Greene County.

Four more villages were listed as having moderate fiscal stress: Cherry Creek in Chautauqua County, Gowanda in Cattaraugus County, Akron in Erie County and Fayetteville in Onondaga County.
