Security forces arrested three Arabs who jumped the security fence separating Israel from Gaza on Shabbos morning. An initial investigation indicated that the Arabs were attempting to infiltrate Israel in order to find work, and not to carry out terror attacks.

However, their intentions were not known before their capture, and as a result, thousands of residents of the Gaza border area were put on alert for hours, told to remain indoors or in shelters. Soldiers fanned out throughout the region, searching for the infiltrators, who were finally found after several hours.

Speaking to Israel Radio Motzoei Shabbos, MK Chaim Yellin (Yesh Atid) said that the incident highlighted the need for the completion of the security fence around Gaza. “Until that happens, the IDF will be forced to continue dealing with these individual incidents in a haphazard manner.”
