Israeli security officials said Monday that they had prevented the smuggling of weapons into Israel on Sunday by an Arab driver from the Chevron area. The weapons were hidden in a trailer truck that officials inspected at the Tarkumiya checkpoint. Among the weapons found were Kalachnikov rifles and other high-powered weapons.

The driver was arrested and truck and the weapons seized as part of the investigation.

Earlier Monday, sources in Gaza quoted on Israel Radio said that a Hamas terrorist had been killed in yet another tunnel collapse, this one between Gaza and Sinai. The report said that a large dirt pack set up by Egyptian security forces had collapsed into the tunnel, causing part of the tunnel itself to fall, with the 20-year-old terrorist buried underneath. This is the fourth tunnel to collapse in Gaza in the past three weeks.

Overnight Sunday, security officials said they had arrested 18 wanted security suspects in Yehudah and Shomron. The suspects were wanted for participating in rioting and throwing stones and firebombs that endangered Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers. Several of the suspects were also charged with belonging to Hamas. All were being questioned on their activities by security forces.
