New York social service officials are distributing 1,700 free cribs to low-income families in upstate New York as part of a campaign to educate parents on how to prevent sleep-related deaths among infants.

The Office of Children and Family Services is distributing $100,000 worth of pack-and-play cribs. They say about 90 babies in New York die every year from sleep-related causes, such as suffocating because of blankets or sleeping on unsafe surfaces.
