NYC Transit Has Snow-Melting Equipment Ready In Subways

NEW YORK (AP) —

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it has placed snow-melting equipment at critical points throughout New York City’s subway system.

The agency’s preparations for the weekend snowstorm include heaters for the electrified third rails that keep trains moving.

It says 79 trains will have “scraper shoes,” which also reduce third-rail icing.

About 1,000 track workers will be deployed during the storm. And 800 station workers will work to keep stairs and platforms clear of snow.
