12 Injured, 5 Seriously, in Harlem High-Rise Fire

NEW YORK (AP) —

Fire officials say that 12 people have been injured in a fire at a high-rise apartment building in Harlem.

Officials say the blaze broke out late Monday in the ninth floor compactor chute of the 28-story building, located near St. Nicholas Avenue and W. 131st Street.

WNBC-TV reports that five of the victims are hospitalized in serious condition. The other seven victims, including a firefighter, suffered minor injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
