Vienna: Police Meet on Security Precautions After Tip

VIENNA (AP) —

Police in Vienna have scheduled two security meetings in the wake of warning to several European capitals about the possibility of an attack using explosives or firearms during this week.

Police spokesman Patrick Maierhofer says police are discussing the situation internally on Monday and then holding a meeting with railway and public transport officials later in the day.

Vienna police said Saturday that the tip from an unidentified “friendly” intelligence service came at the end of last week. It said authorities also were given several names of potential terrorists, but examination of that list and other investigations brought no “concrete further results,” so far.

Police say they are stepping up surveillance of places where crowds are expected to gather, including transport interchanges.
