Clinton Birthplace Home Remains Closed After Suspected Arson

HOPE, Ark. (AP) —

The childhood home of former President Bill Clinton has been closed as authorities investigate a suspected arson case.

Park superintendent Tarona Armstrong says the visitor center is open, but the home is closed until further notice. Park employees haven’t been allowed to enter it while investigators search the site.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that a passing motorist noticed the fire around 3:15 a.m. Friday. Detectives suspected arson after smelling an accelerant.

Hope Police Chief J.R. Wilson says estimated damages to the house are $20,000.
