Some Banks Won’t Accept NYC IDs to Open Accounts

NEW YORK (AP) —

Some banks are refusing to accept New York City municipal identification cards, even though federal regulators gave a green light to use the cards to open bank accounts.

JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup do not accept IDNYC, which was introduced this year with the goal of providing illegal immigrants with a valid piece of identification.

City Comptroller Scott Stringer says his office will contact banks that won’t accept IDNYC cards to discuss steps to change their policies.

Some smaller banks accept the municipal IDs. Federal regulations do not require banks to accept them.
