Suspect to Face Charges Following LI Mall Robbery Attempt

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) -

A suspect involved in a botched robbery and shooting at a Long Island mall is due in court to face half a dozen criminal charges. One bystander was injured by a gunshot during the incident.

Nassau County court spokesman Dan Bagnuola identified the suspect as Oliver Lee. He was expected to be arraigned Thursday on robbery, assault and other charges. The name of his attorney was not immediately known.

The police department did not immediately comment Thursday, but scheduled a news conference to discuss the case.

The incident happened Tuesday at the crowded Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City. A gunshot went off at a luxury watch store when security guards attempted to apprehend a suspect. A mall employee was hit in the shoulder. He is in serious condition.
