Commission Recommends Raises for NYC Mayor, Council Members
A commission on Monday released its recommendations, suggesting raises for New York City’s mayor, city council members and some other elected officials.
The Quadrennial Advisory Commission is mandated by city code and its current three members were appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio this fall. They recommended that de Blasio’s salary be raised by more than $33,000 to $258,750. De Blasio released a statement a short time later saying he would not accept a raise this term, which runs out in 2017.
The commission also recommended a $25,815 raise for council members, which would increase their salaries to $138,000. It also suggested the lawmakers be prohibited from earning outside income.
A spokeswoman for Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said the council would review the recommendation.
