Hearing Set for NY Man Charged With Aiding IS

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) —

A New York pizza shop owner charged with trying to aid the Islamic State terror group and plotting to kill U.S. soldiers is scheduled to appear before a federal judge.

Mufid Elfgeeh of Rochester was charged in 2014. Additional charges last year accuse him of assaulting three jail deputies while in custody.

A hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning in U.S. District Court in Rochester.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Investigators say that Elfgeeh was born in Yemen and is a naturalized U.S. citizen. He operated a convenience store and pizza shop in Rochester at the time of his arrest.
