Car Insurance E-cards Debut in NY

ALBANY (AP) -

Some New York drivers will now be able to keep their proof of insurance on their smart phones.

The Cuomo administration announced that GEICO has become the first insurance company in New York allowed to provide customers with electronic IDs on their smart phones. The e-card will be available on the GEICO app starting Tuesday.

The DMV in April changed the rules to allow insurers to issue e-cards to register cars and during traffic stops.
