Deri to Move From Economy To Let Gas Plan Go Through

YERUSHALAYIM (Hamodia Staff) —

Minister of the Economy Aryeh Deri will likely vacate his post to allow a deal with the natural gas companies to go through, which has been stalled because of his refusal to sign an unprecedented order to override the Antitrust Authority, according to media reports.

Deri met with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and the two agreed that Deri will be compensated with another ministerial position. Deri will continue as Minister of the Development of the Negev and the Galil.

Attempts to bypass Deri by gaining Knesset approval to transfer authority from the Minister of the Economy to the Cabinet failed to secure the necessary majority.

Former antitrust commissioner David Gilo’s resignation took effect on Sept. 1. His successor will be empowered to authorize the plan agreed to by the government and gas companies.
