Army Vows Every Effort to Secure Kever Rochel on Yahrtzeit

YERUSHLAYIM

In response to an urgent request by Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the Rav of the Kosel and other mekomos hakedoshim in Israel, a meeting took place with senior military officials who promised to do their utmost to provide adequate security for the tens of thousands of mispallelim expected to flock to Kever Rochel on Friday and Motzoei Shabbos. This Shabbos, 11 Cheshvan is the yahrtzeit of Rochel Imeinu.

On Tuesday, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the Border Police near the kever, injuring one of the officers. The wounded officer received medical attention at the scene. Dozens of rioting Palestinians threw stones and firebombs at security forces in the area, who used crowd dispersal methods on the rioters.

Rioting and violent attacks are a frequent occurrence in the area, and on occasions, mispallelim davening inside the kever are unable to leave the area until military reinforcements arrive and are able to secure the area. The exchange of gunfire between the military forces and the rioters can clearly be heard in the can immediate proximity of the kever.

The two Chief Rabbis, the Rishon LeTzion Harav Yitzchak Yosef and Harav David Lau, are expected to issue a kol korei calling for people to come be mispallel at Kever Rochel.
