Heat Lightning Dazzles Yerushalayim, Dead Sea

YERUSHALAYIM (Hamodia Staff) —

A rare show of heat lightning, in a prolonged illumination of the night sky, dazzled residents of Yerushalayim and visitors to the Dead Sea on Tuesday following the conclusion of Rosh Hashanah, Arutz Sheva reported.

Residents of the capital said they saw “constant ongoing heat lightning light up the skies” in the southwestern neighborhood of Kiryat Menachem. The sight was so unfamiliar that many surprised viewers did not know what it was at all.

“The skies were lit up, it was an incredible sight — there was lightning every second,” said Liron Simon, a resident of the northern Dead Sea region in the Megilot regional council.

“We’ve never experienced a night like this, and I’ve never seen a thunderstorm like this,” she added. “In the night hours the heavens opened and the desert darkness was lit up by hundreds of hypnotizing lines —we’ve never seen a sight like that.”

The heat lightning is consistent with meteorological predictions that Yerushalayim is due for a thunderstorm in the coming hours that would clear from the air any residue from last week’s massive sandstorm.
