Syracuse Zoo Announces Birth of Two Red Pandas

The Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse is showing off a pair of red panda cubs born at the end of June.

Zoo officials say Thursday the male cubs weighed an estimated two or three ounces at birth and weigh in now at about a pound. There are fewer than 10,000 red pandas in the wild because of the loss of nesting trees and bamboo due to deforestation. They’re found in the Eastern Himalayas and Southwestern China.
