Afghan War Vet to be Senior Enlisted Advisor For NY Guard

ALBANY (AP) —

The New York Army National Guard is getting a new senior enlisted advisor.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that Command Sgt. Major David Piwowarski will replace Rochester resident Louis Wilson in the position.

Piwowarski currently serves as command sergeant major for the Troy-based 42nd Infantry. A veteran of the Afghan war, he’ll be the new highest ranking non-commissioned officer of the 10,500-member New York Guard and will assist Major General Patrick Murphy on training and enlisted soldier issues.

Piwowarski has extensive experience with the Guard, having served as a rifleman, platoon sergeant, company first sergeant, and command sergeant major at the battalion, brigade, and division levels. He’s currently a military technician who works full-time in the Guard’s domestic operations office.
