Felder Launching ‘Wear a Helmet’ Campaign to Promote Bike Safety

BROOKLYN

Citing statistics showing that Boro Park is among the most dangerous places in New York City for bike riders, Sen. Simcha Felder said he will be launching a campaign to get every biker to “wear a helmet.”

Beginning Sunday, Aug. 30 and running through Friday, Sept. 4, any child or teenager wearing a helmet while riding a bike may pick up a coupon for a free Klein’s ice cream or ices from participating toy stores, said Felder, a Brooklyn Democrat.

The 66th precinct, which patrols Boro Park, Felder quoted New York Business Journal, is “the second most dangerous [place for bikers] with 5.1 cyclist injuries per 100 collisions.”

“I am deeply concerned that there are so many bicyclists being injured in my community,” Felder said.

Participating stores are Toys 4 You, Linicks, Double Play, Tree House, Toys 2 Discover and Totally Toys.
