7 Cases Involving NY Politicians Sent To Prosecutors
An investigator for the New York state agency overseeing elections has forwarded seven cases involving potential felonies among state lawmakers to prosecutors.
Risa Sugarman, chief enforcement counsel at New York’s Board of Elections, said on Friday that while she can’t comment on specifics, the cases relate to elected officials and candidates at different levels of government scattered around the state.
Sugarman’s enforcement unit can refer any potential criminal activity to local district attorneys and the attorney general. It’s up to individual prosecutors to decide whether to file charges based on the evidence.
