Speziale Given Deadline for Filing New Claims in Lawsuit

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) —

The Port Authority’s former No. 2 cop has two weeks to amend his lawsuit against the agency to include claims stemming from a recent dispute at JFK Airport.

Jerry Speziale said that police pulled him off a flight to Puerto Rico last weekend and held him for a few hours. On Friday, a judge gave him until Aug. 12 to add the claims to his whistleblower lawsuit.

Speziale, currently Paterson’s police director, said he was asked to check a piece of oversized luggage, then was pulled off the plane and held for more than three hours.

The Port Authority said Speziale has tried to flout airport security in the past and the bag had crews worried it had not been properly screened.
