The remarkable success of the Iron Dome missile defense system has been noted by military experts around the world, and now Canada has decided to acquire the radar technology.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) unit ELTA Systems and Rheinmetall-Canada have been awarded the significant Medium Range Radar (MRR) program by the Canadian Department of National Defense (DND), Globes said on Thursday.
The radar for the project is that of the ELTA ELM-2084 MMR Iron Dome radar which includes C-RAM (Counter Rockets, Artillery and Mortars) and air-surveillance capabilities. Itwill be produced locally in cooperation with Rheinmetall-Canada.
The Iron Dome technology beat competitors in live fire testing, and gained prestige from successes in real combat conditions.
The two companies will implement a technology transfer program in accordance with Canada’s Defense Procurement Strategy, which is also designed to create employment and spur economic growth.
