Palestinian Killed in Rioting Against IDF Soldiers

YERUSHALAYIM (Hamodia Staff) —

Israeli security forces confronted by stone-throwing rioters opened fire and killed a Palestinian in the village of Bruqin, near Jenin, overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the IDF confirmed that troops had called on the crowd to stop hurling rocks before they took aim at the main culprit.

They had been carrying out arrests of security suspects along with the paramilitary border police.

A Palestinian hospital official said Mohammed Alawneh, 19, was shot in his chest and taken to hospital where he died of his wounds, according to the Ma’an Palestinian News Agency.

The incident occurred during a sweep of terrorist targets across the Palestinian Authority, which took 18 individuals into custody. Two were identified as members of Hamas, the army said, adding that the men were arrested in Jenin and Kalkilya. The remainder are suspected of taking part in various violent disturbances.
