Sen. Schumer Squeezed on Obama’s Iran Nuclear Deal
Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York is getting squeezed from all sides on President Barack Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran. So far, he’s giving no hint how he will vote.
Schumer has competing roles as next-in-line Senate Democratic leader, unquestioned congressional ally of Israel and leading fundraiser and strategist for his party. He’s also from a state that is home to more than a million-and-a-half Jews.
Congressman Steve Israel, a fellow Jewish Democratic lawmaker from New York, says Schumer will be instrumental in determining where Congress ends up on the deal.
Schumer says he has to go through the lengthy deal with a fine-toothed comb before deciding.
