Central Park Car Ban Goes Into Effect on Monday

NEW YORK – A ban on cars in Central Park north of 72nd Street and Brooklyn’s Prospect Park goes into effect Monday, after Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the new rule two weeks ago. Central Park’s four transverse roads remain open.

Toddlers Slip Out, Wander Through the Night

JERSEY CITY – Two toddlers, ages 1 and 3, found wandering early Saturday were reunited with their parents, The Associated Press reported. Officers found a nearby home with the front door open. The father, who was sleeping, said his wife had likely left the door open when she left for work at 6 a.m.

Christie Plans for Return of Newark Schools Control

NEWARK – After 20 years of state control, Newark schools will be returned to local control by 2017, Gov. Chris Christie said Friday. The news comes as the superintendent announced her resignation after a stormy four years.

Brazen Thief Steal Cellphone in Courthouse

FORT LEE, N.J. – A brazen thief stole a cellphone inside the courthouse building on Thursday, The Associated Press reported. One officer stood near Pedro Figueroa Jr. as the other called the phone. When the phone rang and Figueroa took it out, he was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.

Maryland Boy, Penn. Girl Are Marbles Champs

WILDWOOD, N.J. – A Pennsylvania girl and Maryland boy left New Jersey with all the marbles and some cash, winning the National Marbles Tournament on Thursday, The Associated Press reported. Emily Simkovich and Devon Loewendick, both 13, received trophies and a $2,000 college scholarship.

Woman Killed When 2 Motorcycles Crash on Bridge

NEW YORK – A 32-year-old woman was killed early Saturday when two motorcycles crashed into each other on the Queensboro Bridge, The Associated Press reported. Both motorcycles had a passenger on the back. One rear-ended the other and the passenger on the front motorcycle fell off and was struck by the other motorcycle.
