Wildwood to Atlantic City: Stop ‘Watch The Tram Car, Please’
A five-word catchphrase is creating tension between Wildwood and Atlantic City.
The iconic “watch the tram car, please” recording used on the boardwalk in Wildwood since the 1970s cannot be used on the Atlantic City boardwalk since its intellectual property theft, Wildwood argued. Atlantic City began using it after the city launched its own tram-car operation last year.
The owner of Atlantic City’s tram car, B&B Parking, said there have been delays in making a new recording. He said there are safety concerns about operating the trams without any recording to warn riders.
“It will stay very similar, just a different voice,” B$B said.
The recording isn’t trademarked but the district has proprietary ownership of the recording. It was recorded by the original owners in 1971.
