New Motto to Replace Library’s Lost-in-translation

MOORESTOWN, N.J. – A library whose derided “We Second-Guess All” Latin motto got lost in translation is getting a new one, the Courier-Post reported. Lauren Articolo, 11, chose “Scientia Incipit Hic,” or “Knowledge Begins Here.” A prior motto was in error translated from “We Confirm All Things Twice.”

NY Agency: EPA Report Won’t Affect State’s Ban on Fracking

ALBANY – Business groups on Thursday called on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to lift New York’s fracking ban after the EPA reported it hasn’t caused harm to drinking water, The Associated Press reported. But the administration says the ban will stay since their review was broader.

STOP-DWI! Schumer Pushes To Continue Funding Program

ALBANY – Sen. Charles Schumer urged Congress to keep funding New York state’s program against drunk driving, calling STOP-DWI one of the most effective in the nation because it pairs prevention with law enforcement. But its $7 million in funding expires July 31.

NYC Installing 21,000 Audible Door Alarms at Schools

NEW YORK – New York City is installing 21,000 school door alarms to prevent a repeat of the 2013 tragedy of a autistic student who slipped out of his Queens school and died, The Associated Press reported. About 97 percent of schools requested the alarms under the Avonte Oquendo law.

Man Sent to Prison for Fake Military ID Cards

ROCHESTER – A Rochester man convicted of a counterfeit military ID was sentenced to three months in jail and 300 hours of community service, The Associated Press reported. Claiming to be a Navy officer, Mark Kelly wore uniforms and got a rent discount. But he was dishonorably discharged in 1981.

Cop Shoots, Kills Pit Bull After it Attacks Him

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – A pit bull who bit a Middletown pedestrian on Wednesday set upon the police officer who came to the rescue, before being shot and killed by the cop, The Associated Press reported. The dog had pulled away from its leash when the officer arrived.
