Leader of NYC Council’s Tiny GOP Caucus to Resign

NEW YORK (AP) —

The leader of the New York City Council’s 3-member Republican caucus will be resigning his post this summer.

Vincent Ignizio announced Friday he’ll be leaving the 51-member council after having represented his Staten Island district for eight years. He will become the chief executive officer of Catholic Charities of Staten Island.

Ignizio called his decision “bittersweet.” Mayor Bill de Blasio will call for a special election to replace Ignizio.
