Greenfield Announces Winners of $1 Million Budgeting Projects
Councilman David Greenfield on Tuesday announced the four winning projects of this year’s $1 million in participatory budgeting: Street repair and resurfacing for the 44th Council District ($200,000), digital bus signs for the B11 and B6 letting riders know when the next bus is coming ($200,000), planting 100 new trees in Boro Park ($170,000) and funding for a new OHEL headquarters ($500,000).
Greenfield said that 2,256 residents took part in this year’s voting.
“The whole purpose of participatory budgeting is to have the community decide capital funding priorities,” Greenfield said. After a nine month process, the people have spoken very clearly about their priorities.”
