NYC Council Bill Calls For Panic Buttons In All Taxis

NEW YORK (AP) —

The City Council introduced a bill that would require emergency buttons in all New York City taxis.

The panic button would send an electronic signal directly to police precincts, said sponsors Ydanis Rodriguez and Laurie Cumbo. It was prompted by the assault of a passenger in a green cab earlier this year. Already, taxi drivers have a button that activates a distress light on the outside of the cab if they are being robbed or threatened.
