Greenfield to City: Shorten Friday Afternoon Meter Rules

BROOKLYN

Councilman David Greenfield is urging the Department of Transportation to end metered parking earlier on Friday evenings in Boro Park, when Shabbos comes in the winter shortly after 4:00 p.m.

The program, if enacted, will terminate metered-parking at 5:00 p.m. rather than the current 7:00 p.m. along 13th and 18th Avenues. That will expand an existing pilot program on 16th Avenue.

“That pilot has proved successful and has literally opened up over 100 new parking spaces in the community,” Greenfield said. “With so many stores closing early anyway, there is no need for meters to keep turning over parking spaces and for people to be driving around aimlessly looking for spots.”
