NYC Skyscraper Issued Stop-Order After Plexiglas Falls
A developer has been ordered to stop all glass work at a Manhattan skyscraper after a piece of Plexiglas fell and hit two parked cars.
The city Buildings Department issued the order after Sunday’s incident at One57, cancelling the permit for the replacement of 100 pieces of glass.
It’s the third time in less than a year that Plexiglas or glass has fallen from the 90-story building on 57th Street. There have been no injuries.
The 4-foot-by 4-foot Plexiglas fell at 5:15 p.m. Sunday. Etell Development Co. says it had been installed temporarily while contractors waited for specialty glass to be delivered.
Councilman Dan Garodnick says the team has committed to reviewing the safety of every window.
