Hecklers Disrupt Council Hearing On NYPD Budget

NEW YORK (AP) —

Hecklers briefly halted a City Council hearing Thursday as security guards cleared the public from the chambers during NYPD Chief William Bratton’s budget talk.

About 25 people shouted that the NYPD was racist and lawmakers were “sellouts” for working with them.

The police commissioner took the outburst in stride, saying it was “actually entertaining.”

People were let back in about 30 minutes later and the seats were once again full. The council chambers were last cleared in late January during an anti-Israel protest.
