IDF Officer Lightly Injured in Golan Incident
An IDF officer was lightly wounded on the Golan Heights on Tuesday by shots fired from within Syrian territory, according to media reports.
The officer, who was hit in the hand, did not require evacuation for medical treatment, and carried on with his duties, patrolling in the area of kibbutz El-Rum. A member of the Engineering Corps, he was struck by shrapnel from a bullet that hit a bulldozer which he was helping to remove after it got stuck.
The IDF did not return fire following the incident, the first security breach on the northern front since a fatal attack in the Arab village of Ghajar in January.
In that incident, two soldiers were killed and several were wounded by a Hizbullah antitank attack on an IDF convoy. The casualties were Captain Yohai Kalangel, Hy”d, 25, and Sergeant Dor Nini, Hy”d, 20.
