A Long Island Rail Road train slammed into an SUV at a crossing in East Rockaway, injuring an elderly female driver.
The SUV was crossing the Rocklyn Avenue crossing when the gate came down behind it. A witness says the woman drove on while warning lights were flashing and bells were ringing.
The train hit the rear of the SUV, pushing it off the tracks. The woman was hospitalized with back injuries. None of the 60 train riders were hurt.
It happened about 40 miles south of a fatal crash last month in Westchester County that killed six.
