NYC Council Wants to Upgrade NYPD Vests
The New York City Council on Thursday proposed spending $7.3 million to upgrade the police department’s bulletproof vests.
Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito said the plan will be part of the council’s preliminary budget for the upcoming fiscal year. It comes on the heels of a report that indicated that the NYPD was largely using outdated vests. It also comes at a time of tension between the police and City Hall.
De Blasio said he supports the vest investment.
