U.S. to Yaalon: Policy Will Outlive Obama Administration
United States opposition to Israeli building over the Green Line will not end with the Obama administration, the State Department said in response to the latest barb from Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon.
“Our opposition — this Administration’s opposition to settlements is fully consistent with the policies of administrations for decades, including of both parties. So the notion that that would change is not borne out by history,” spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters in Washington.
In a speech to high school pupils in the Makor Haim Yeshiva in Gush Etzion on Tuesday, Yaalon said that U.S. pressure has prevented him from giving the order to move forward on construction in Yehudah and Shomron, but that “this administration won’t be [in power] forever.”
The talk was supposed to have been off the record, but excerpts found their way to Israel Radio on Wednesday morning.
