Lawmakers: Do Child Services Promote Stability
The state Assembly wants to know whether the state’s child protective services do enough to promote family stability.
They plan to hold a hearing Monday in Albany focusing on programs that try to keep families intact and reduce the need for foster care placements.
Lawmakers say they want to see what the state can do to balance the need to protect children with the desire to help families stay together. Recommendations from the hearing could be considered as legislation when lawmakers convene next year.
Child advocates and experts on the state’s foster care and child protective services programs are expected to address the panel.
