Two officers from Boro Park’s 66th precinct were awarded with a citation on Tuesday for helping an elderly woman cross the street.
Assemblyman Dov Hikind gave the award for distinguished service to Igor Smolyakov and Joseph Droge, whom he said were seen by one of his staffers stop their car in middle of the street to help an elderly woman cross.
“I immediately thought of my own mother,” Hikind said. “It may sound like a small thing, but it’s not.”
Hikind said that with the NYPD getting so much criticism, “people too rarely speak of the fine and important work they do. But this one example is a solid illustration of officers at their best.”
