A Palestinian Egged bus driver who was found dead inside his vehicle on Sunday night has touched off another round of rioting, even though there was no foul play.
Although an autopsy revealed no criminal cause of death, clashes between security forces and Palestinian rioters flared on Monday night in the Abu Dis section of east Yerushalayim after fresh media incitement.
There was rampant speculation in Arab news outlets charging that the driver, Youssef al-Ramouni, 32, was murdered by Israelis in a nationalistically-motivated crime.
Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld lamented the phenomenon of extremist and irresponsible elements exploiting “this sad incident … to try to incite and provoke disturbances in the Arab community.”
No injuries were reported.
