Poll: Republican Closing In on AG Schneiderman
Republican John Cahill is winnowing Democratic Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s lead in the race for the job of New York’s top lawyer, according to a poll released Friday.
The Siena survey showed that 50 percent would re-elect Schneiderman, while 34 percent would vote for Cahill, former chief of staff to Gov. George Pataki. Last month, the poll had Schneiderman with a 54-27 percent lead.
“Cahill’s been advertising. That’s clearly had an effect on this,” Siena pollster Steven Greenberg said. “You spend money … it has an impact.”
The poll showed Cahill ahead in upstate, 44 to 39 percent. In New York City, he trailed 64 to 23 percent.
In the race for comptroller, 56 percent would vote for incumbent Democrat Thomas DiNapoli while 27 percent would vote for Republican challenger Robert Antonacci, the Onondaga County comptroller.
